HALF DAY CITY TOUR 

HALF DAY SIGHTSEEING OF ADDIS

Your city tour in Addis start with a drive up north to Mount Entoto. Descending down to Addis, proceed to the National museum that houses the 3.4 million years old fossils of ‘Lucy’(perhaps our earliest ancestor) is among other interesting archaeological findings. Proceed to visit the Trinity Cathedral, the largest and most revered of all the churches, which was built in 1941. Later you will be transferred to your hotel.

FULL DAY CITY TOUR

OPTION ONE: FULL DAY SIGHTSEEING OF ADDIS:

Early in the morning you will start your full day city tour of Addis with a drive up north to Mount Entoto then proceed to National Museum also called the Archeological museum that houses interesting archeological featuring which includes "Lucy," the 3.2-million-year-old hominid skeleton considered the missing link in the evolutionary study of mankind proceed to visit the Trinity Cathedral, the largest and most revered of all the churches, which was built in 1941. Proceed to the Ethnographic museum, which displays a very large collection of Ethiopian crafts and items of historical interest. You will continue visiting the red terror martyrs memorial museum was designed as a testament to the victims of a dark period of Ethiopia’s recent history and the number estimated killed during the Red Terror varies from tens of thousands to Amnesty International’s stunning figure of 500,000. Outside of the entrance to the museum stands a statue of three women grouped together. Their faces are cloaked in sorrow, with two of the subjects resting their heads on the woman in the center. Later you will be transferred to your hotel.

OPTION TWO: EXCURSION TO TIYA, ADADI MARIAM & MELKA KUNTRIE:

After an early breakfast, depart south from Addis Ababa to visit these archeological sites of interest.  Tiya is an ancient stelae field, with anthropomorphic statues marking burial grounds.  Tiya is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  Adadi Maryam is a rock-hewn church, similar to those in Lalibela. Melka Kunture is a pre-historic tool-making site.  Return to Addis Ababa late afternoon. Overnight own arrangement

OPTION THREE: EXCURSION TO DEBRE ZEIT OR ZIWAY OR DEBRE LIBANOS:

Early in the morning, depart south from Addis Ababa to Lake Ziway, one of the chain of lakes found in the Great Rift Valley.  Here you will take a boat trip on Lake Ziway to the island of Tullo Gudo. The island hosts the church of Maryam Tsion which, according to tradition, once housed the Ark of the Covenant to hide it from invaders.  After the visit, return to shore, enjoying the bountiful birdlife on this lake and possibly some hippos. OR

Early in the morning, our driver will pick up you from your hotel and you will drive to north from Addis Ababa (about 100km) to the Debre Libanos Monastery. This monastery was founded in the 13th century by St. Tekle Haimanot, who, according to legend, prayed for 7 years straight standing on one leg until the other leg fell off.  Nearby the monastery is the Portuguese bridge, which was the first bridge in Ethiopia. Around this area, you will hopefully see some endemic gelada baboons. Short hikes are available in the area, with stunning views of the Jemma Valley. Return to Addis Ababa late afternoon. Overnight own arrangement.
